First Runner Up: The Alchemist by Paul Coelho
This story was one of my runner ups because it teaches people that they all have their own destiny or dream. Not everyone accomplishes this dream because they are afraid of the hard work or failure. Achieving your goal requires persistence and the ability to change. In the story a boy named Santiago leaves his homeland in Spain and travels to Egypt because he was told it was his Personal Legend to find a treasure there. Along the way he meets an Alchemist who teaches him how to understand omens which are necessary to achieve your dream.
Second Runner Up: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Ender's Game is the story of six year old Ender Wiggin who is a child genius. He is sent away by the government to a training camp in outer space. At the camp he and many other young geniuses are put through many tests that build their knowledge of war strategy and their skills with weapons. Each one of them is being trained to become a general in the future to fight off an alien race. Before long Ender becomes the best student at the camp and is given the task of commanding a fleet.
